He is fed up with Romeo due to the fact that Rosaline, the girl Romeo loves, does not love him back. Mercutio says this passage to Romeo but the mood goes from him being cheerful to him being angry and shouting. This quote shows how Mercutio is a foil for Romeo. While Romeo is brought down by love, Mercuti o does not think twice about love. Mercutio does not believe in love, but he does what he can to make Romeo happy.
